The Murder of an
Apparition

Oh this one is a KICKER. Get ready. Buckle in! 'The Murder of an Apparition' is a gutteral song about personal change, and the pain that is felt when someone dear to you refuses to see a change within you, or refuses to accept you. It was written with the concept of death and rebirth in the forefront of my mind, as well as the idea that in any given moment we are not the same as we were before. Think about it like this: in every moment your past selves give way to new selves that are different in every waking second, even if only by a little bit. The title and the lyrics serve to elicit a double meaning of the process of leaving behind those past selves and having to replace them - 'the murder of an apparition' meaning that you are destroying the past version of yourself to grow into something new, while also carrying the meaning of the apparition not necessarily being you, but rather being someone else's false perception of you. The phrase 'I would kill the image of me that you have stuck in your mind, if it meant you would see me for myself' denotes this in a very strong and visceral way. I wrote this song because there were a number of people in my own life who I felt had grievously misunderstood me, and who were completely unwilling to shift their frame of mind to see me for who I was in reality. Writing this song was a way of getting that struggle out of my mind and into actual reality, where it Could be felt, shared, and understood better. I hope that listeners are able to use this song in some way to heal and process emotions as I did, and find solace that they are not alone in similar feelings. You are not alone. (P.S. Let the emotions come and go. They are not you, and you are not obligated to stay with them or keep them. take what you need from the experience to heal and to grow and to learn, and then leave what is harmful and negative behind you. It helps so much
